  1. Service learning was one of the most fulfilling experiences I had during this training. The students get to experience helping other people in other countries while learning a skill in their classes. I hope I can bring this idea home with me and interest as many people in this perspective as needed to start a similar project in my school.

  2. Well, for me the experience was great to see teenagers working together to have a wheelchair done following the teacher's instructions. I think it's a good way to help others who are in need from all over the world and to share love is a challenge to all especially for those we don't know.

  3. What I liked the best about participating at the Service Learning at RocWheels, was to see the excitement on the kids faces for assembling the wheel chairs. Their face said: "I want to do it as best as I can because this will be an importan asset to somebody somewhere".

It was interesting for me to witness how such Service Learning Projects can be a common part of the curriculum in a school.

  4. Volunteering at RockWeels was one of the most amazing experiences i have ever had. I really had the chance to see how this kids who participate in this program, are so committed to serve other people from around the world. It is amazing to see how they are motivated and how their desire to serve other grow. I was pretty amazed about that. Volunteering in my home country is just the same as volunteering in the United States. The only difference is that people in the U.S. are prone to more often volunteer in social events or events that are interesting for their communities.

  5. Volunteering is the greatest way to show charity to someone who needs your help. According to their age, students between 11 and 15 years develop the virtue of "helping others" and between 15 and 18 "solidarity". Every country should have a program where students have the opportunity to help others like they have it here.

The difference between volunteering in the USA and in Guatemala is that Guatemala is such a poor country and it needs much more help from other and the government. I hope some day, the focus of the schools is to accommodate the curriculum to have everybody help everybody.

  7. I was impressed how many teenagers worked as volunteers, how responsible they felt.

In my country the volunteering means buy something, or pay for the concert ticket. Collected money by this way usually support some projects or people who need help. So it is usually money, not personal activity.

I think that in my school society we can run some kind of the project where students could participate themselves. It will teach them tolerance and sympathy.

  8. It was a very touching experience. It is amazing the way teachers involve students in these kinds of projects where the good will Of God lingers in every simple movement they make in order to put together these wheel chairs which are going to be so useful for poor and disadvantaged children. My country is a poor nation that is why we can not come up with expensive projects, but we do our best to help disadvantaged children, collecting food, clothes, toys etc. Everything supported by the presence of God in our actions.

  10. Unfortunately, we don`t have volunteering in Georgia, so I cannot say whether volunteering in the USA is similar or different from that in my country. As for volunteering at RocWheels, I think it was an amazing opportunity for me to be part of this great idea.I was happy to see the kids who were so excited about what they were doing.I think it is very important for young people to have a chance to offer help to their peers who need it.In my opinion, this is the most important part of education.
It was an unforgettable experience for me!

  11. I must say it was one of the greatest experiences in the field of volunteerism I've ever had. I admired the young people and the teacher who made the students so enthusiastic about the "wheelchair project'. It's really a great idea and I see it as a great breakthrough towards mutual understanding, empathy i social knowhow. In my country - Poland, volunteerism has become somewhat popular in the last few years. For the time being we are not engaged in such big undertakings and enterprise projects as RocWheels, but there is a sign of hope that people's attitude towards volunteerism will change soon. I truly hope that young people will look around and that they will see there are many people in need who due to being humble or shy don't want to attract attention and who at the same time are at the end of their tether and badly need a helping hand!

  12. Service learning IS ONE OF THE BEST ACTIVITIES LIKED BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY RAISES STUDENTS AWARENESS TO SHARE LIFE WITH PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND HAVING NEW EXPERIENCE.

  13. I was impressed to the deep of my heart. We tried to be involved in the process of making the wheels and worked with the students in their workshop. In my country there are many NGOs where the community members may do different activities to support people with special needs. As for me, it's my first experience here.

  14. Service learning activity was a great learning experience as it exhibited cooperation and will to serve the humanity.

  15. It was the most humane experience I saw because it included helping others within a learning curriculum. In our country, service learning is limited to the same neighborhood or city, so I was surprised to see adolescents working on wheelchairs for people in such far away places that they may never meet or see.

  16. I think volunteering is a great thing because you help people that really need help. Most of the time they won't be the ones that would ask for your help, but there are always good people who want to get involved in solving problems when they see them.
This is what RocWheels is about!
And what is even better, RocWheels work with schools and students which is an incredible thing because they get to involve children in helping other children and not only.
It's just great to make children realize there are people who need to be helped because they can not help themselves! This experience - making a wheelchair for someone who needs it - changes them forever! They realize they can do something good, that they have the power to make a change and this is just amazing!
Back home, in Romania, we have organizations that deal with the same things. Maybe volunteering was not very well developed some years ago, but it started growing about 2 to 3 years ago even with the students. So, now, we have programs concerning environmental issues - and not only - that require students to volunteer for making our country a cleaner place to live in. We have started recycling as well, which is important - in my opinion - so our children will grow knowing that they have to take care of the place where they live and trying to help those in need, by this making the world a better place!

  17. The visit the Belgrade Middle School was a real experience as I watched the kids assemble the wheelchairs with great enthusiasm. This form of volunteerism in school system is recommendable as it instills in the students so many virtues such as love towards humanity, patriotism, dedication, tolerance to other cultures, skills among other things. I happened to fix a wheelchair with one the students and he was glad to work with me.

  18. Volunteering at RocWheels gave an opportunity to understand how teachers can educate students through volunteering lessons. This helps children to broaden their mind to be compassionate. Through educational process children learn to love those who need us. They are proud to produce wheel chairs themselves and one girl said that students even compete to be able to select this elective class. Students' eyes were shining, they were so happy and exciting to share their experience with our teachers. This experience has inspired me to go to Lithuania and try to change lives of those who wait and believe in us!
